Hindustani vocal music, the classical music tradition of North India, is now available to learners in the UK through SL Music Academy. The academy offers a unique opportunity to study this rich art form through a highly structured curriculum that provides a clear path for progression and certification. Students can earn level certificates by completing the courses outlined under each stage and passing the corresponding examinations. Whether you’re new to music or have prior experience, all students begin with the first course of each level, ensuring a strong and consistent foundation.

Hindustani vocal music for Kids UK We have specially designed the SL Music Academy to introduce young children to the world of Hindustani music in a fun and engaging way. Through interactive lessons, children explore basic concepts such as Sur (melody) and Laya (rhythm), instilling curiosity and a love of music. Early exposure to music fosters artistic expression and contributes to a child’s overall cognitive and emotional development.

SL Music Academy focuses on establishing a strong foundation in Hindustani classical music. Students are introduced to the basic ragas while developing a harmonious blend of technical skills and creative expression. This training enables learners to understand and sing various songs confidently and artfully.

The intermediate grade deepens the exploration of ragas by introducing Bada Khayal or Vilambit Khayal, a slow and expressive compositional form. At SL Music Academy, we start students with familiar ragas so that they can refine their technique and develop a more nuanced understanding of Hindustani classical music.

The Master’s degree program at SL Music Academy focuses on refining performance skills while deepening the understanding of Shastra (music theory). It encourages continuous inquiry and research, fostering a holistic approach to musical mastery.

A Complete Journey Through Hindustani Classical Music & Instrumental Training for All Ages

The Academy prepares students for the Bhathkande Hindusthani Music Visharad exams, a recognized degree in classical music. This is a 5-year course suitable for teenagers and adults.

The course started in March 2025, but new students can still join.
The focus is on covering the syllabus for 9 Ragas.
No theory paper in the 1st year; it is only a practical vocal exam, which will be held between December 2025 and February 2026.
The examination will be conducted by Indian professors at the UK Academy Centre.
