Headmistress

Visharad Anusha Malwatta

Anusha Malwatta began her musical journey at the tender age of 4, appearing on the beloved children’s program Handa Maama. She went on to study under some of Sri Lanka’s most renowned musicians, including Visharada Nanda Malini, Pandith Amaradeva, and Professor Ediriweera Sarath Chandra. Anusha earned several prestigious qualifications, including the Visharad degree from Bhatkhande University and the degree of Lalitha Kalawedee.

As a teacher, Anusha made her mark at various schools in Sri Lanka, culminating in her role at Visakha Vidyalaya, one of the country’s leading schools. She also showcased her talents in the performing arts, participating in stage dramas and hosting popular television programs such as Sangeetha Kauluwa and Gee Mal Yaya.

For the past two decades, Anusha has been living in the UK, where she runs the Sri Lankan Music Academy. Through her academy, she continues to pass on her music knowledge and Sri Lankan culture to students of all ages with passion.

Visharad Weerasiri Malwatta.

Weerasiri Malwatta’s musical journey began at a young age, studying under the legendary maestro Sanath Nandasiri. Over the years, he developed a passion for songwriting, composing, and creating melodies, leading to the release of solo albums and live performances that captivated audiences across Sri Lanka.

In the 1980s, Weerasiri became a household name, with his songs frequently played on the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation and his performances featured on Rupavahini.
Even while serving in the Air Force, he kept music at the heart of his life by organizing shows and appearing on television programs.

For the past 20 years, Weerasiri has been living in the UK, where his passion for music continues. As a teacher at Sangeetha Ashramaya, he inspires a new generation of musicians with his dedication and love for Sri Lankan music.
